Bye bye magnolia…hello greige

Magnolia has been the ‘neutral’ of choice for a long long time but there is a new neutral appearing in interiors the last couple of years and it’s called greige-a combination of grey and beige. It is such a fantastic versatile colour and will work in any style home be it traditional or contemporary.

I generally prefer to paint walls white when decorating as it provides me with a blank canvas which I layer up with lots of textures and materials to add colour but greige is pretty much the only other colour I’ll use in my home to provide me with a neutral base. It’s warmer and not as stark as white and will go with any other colour. Here’s a few beautiful greige interiors for inspiration…

What an incredibly cosy chic bedroom. Love it!

A contemporary bed and bedside table work in perfect harmony with the vintage mirror and white-washed beams in this beautiful bedroom.

The subtle greige walls give just a hint of warmth to this light-filled landing. It provides the perfect backdrop to all the rusty gold frames. The mirrored stairwell is gorgeous! I only wish I had enough mirrors to do this in my own stairwell!

How about this? I think this is incredible! Love the idea of a bath behind gauzy curtains, it’s so dreamy…The greige-painted cladding prevents this all-white room from looking too stark.

I love every single thing about this picture. The vintage white-painted Tolix chairs, the Smeg fridges, the vintage mirrored cabinet, the chippy white carved panel…This is one of the nicest dining areas I’ve ever seen! I would probably add some burlap and mix in a few rustic timber chairs to add a bit of colour if this were my home though…

LOVE. EVERYTHING.

A great choice for kitchen cabinetry as it’s so subtle and less likely to date as quickly as other colours. Check out those factory lamps over the counter!

So, what do you think of greige? Will you be getting out the paint brush this weekend?
