According to the New York Observer Carrie Bradshaw’s old home has just sold to a mystery buyer for almost $10 million (around €7.5 million). The familiar brownstone is located at 64 Perry Street in the West Village and served as Sarah Jessica Parker’s character’s apartment building for the first few seasons of the (sorely missed) hit series Sex and the City. The inside of the four story brownstone is very ornate and fancy…worlds apart from Carrie’s apartment in the show (yes I know it’s only a TV programme but still! I’m a little obsessed with TV and movie sets if you haven’t noticed already!)
The new owners will be getting 4,100 square feet of living space including a basement; five bedrooms; three bathrooms; six original fireplaces; herringbone hardwood flooring throughout with ornate gold-leaf mouldings and decorative cornicing and ceilings. What they will not inherit however is Carrie’s enviable designer wardrobe and vast shoe collection!
After the third season producers moved the filming location just next door to 66 Perry Street and this brownstone served as her home for the rest of the series and two subsequent movies. Although this building is in the West Village, in the series we’re told Carrie’s address is 245 East 73rd Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Apparently the owners received a whopping $60k every time the exterior was featured on the show!! When I visited New York a few years ago, the very first thing I did was go visit this brownstone! I just couldn’t waaait! Although nowadays they have an ugly chain hanging from the railings preventing you from walking up to the door. Then again I can only imagine the amount of fans and movie stalkers like myself they have gawking up at their home on a daily basis!
Here’s Carrie emerging from the brownstone in that show-stopping newspaper dress by Galliano for Dior and skyscraper Louboutin heels.
Another famous filming location on Sex and the City just down the road on Bleecker street is Magnolia Bakery which was made famous by the show. I of course sampled one (or four!) of their mouth-watering cupcakes during my stay in NY and I can confirm that they are the most amazing cupcakes I have EVER tasted!
