I have been obsessed with the house from “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle” (1992) ever since I watched it many, many years ago. I think my obsession for white interiors might have began after I watched this film! It was on TV last night and I couldn’t resist watching it again even though I have it on DVD! Want to have a look around?

Welcome to the Bartel’s family home in Tacoma, Washington. Here’s the front of the house with its beautiful wrap-around porch and different roof levels..

This shot shows the gorgeous bay windows at the side of the house and the perfect white picket fence. We can see their handyman Solomon is painting the window surrounds green.

I love this picture of the house. Here we see the wrap around porch leading to the side door off the open-plan living area. Imagine sitting out on that porch reading a book looking out onto that beautiful garden?!

This is the front door and to the left we can see the entry into the living area. You can see that there are sliding doors set into the wall here but I don’t remember ever seeing them closed in the film..

This is the living area to the left of the entry way. I love how bright and airy this space is and I especially love the framed french poster over the sofa.

This is the view towards the back of the house from the front living area. There’s another seating area in front of the stairs which opens onto the dining room at the back of the house.

Here’s Peyton (the scary nanny) cleaning the dining room table.  This room is extremely bare and sparse isn’t it? I think this house was cleverly designed in such a way that made it appear like a happy colourful home during the day but a very eerie scary one at night-time. The lack of pictures on the wall, drapes and general household clutter make it feel extremely cold and scary when darkness falls…

This is another view of the dining room which opens onto the kitcen. Here we see a few splashes of colour with the vases on the sideboard. I love the paneling that wraps around the room and the contrast of the dark woods against the crisp white walls.

This is the kitchen at the back of the house. This is probably the cosiest room of the house with the most amount of colour. The retro chequered flooring , the dated white appliances and tiny portable TV give away its age but other than that I kinda like this kitchen especially the timber breakfast bar and glass overhead cabinetry.

This is Claire and Michael at the sink area in the kitchen. I love the metal light shade above their heads and all the potted herbs she has on the counter.

This is the other side of the kitchen where we see the kitchen table and the back door. This room is so bright and airy and full of natural light.

This image was taken on the stairs looking down on the open-plan living area below. I really love how there’s another door leading onto the wrap around porch…but at night I reckon that would be very scary!

This is Claire and Michael’s bedroom. I love the huge bay windows in this room but again, it’s very sparsely furnished and isn’t the cosiest of spaces!

This is a shot of Michael and little Emma in an upstairs bathroom but we don’t get to see the rest of the room in the film.

This is baby Joe’s nursery. This has to be the least cosiest room of the house! Not a teddy bear or toy in sight! We can just about make out a yellow painted chair to the left of this picture but other than that there is nothing warm or friendly or welcoming about this room. Cool fireplace though..

Personally, I don’t think it’s half as nice painted this buttermilk creamy colour, do you? The garden is a lot nicer in the movie too!
