Bringing that beach house look to your home…

Ok so we don’t all own beautiful sprawling beach houses in the Hamptons but that’s not to say we can’t add some nautical beach charm to our homes! This look would be especially charming in a sunroom or conservatory if you have one in your home and of course you can always add nautical charm to a bathroom!

This nautical striped rug is available in a couple of sizes and would instantly add the beach house look to your room! The medium sized rug is priced at £45.

How about lounging on this chaise in your beachy themed living room/sunroom/conservatory/bedroom? EKTORP chaise in Abyn blue fabric €303 from www.ikea.ie and available in a range of slip covers so you could alternate your look during the year if you wanted! These next few items also from Ikea will add to this beachy look!

KLIPPAN pouffe €60

The beach house look is all about simple lightweight window treatments and these AINA linen drapes are puuuurrfect for this look! €57 for a pair. What’s great about Ikea drapes is that they come in 3metre lengths that you can take them up yourself with their iron-on hemming strip.. sooo handy for those of us who don’t know our way around a sewing machine!! :)

LIATORP coffee table €202 . This New England inspired table is great for creating displays in the pull out tray under the glass. Great for displaying pebbles or shells and could obviously be changed for different times of the year..

EKTORP three seat sofa €375. A crisp white slip covered sofa will add a fresh beachy look to your room but is also very versatile for different looks during the year.

TARNBY rug €78. Jute or Seagrass rugs are a staple in a beach cottage look and add rustic charm to any space.

And for some smaller touches….

Display these decorative KNASTER pebbles for €1 (!!!) in a vintage mason jar or vase to accessorize. Add a couple of lanterns like these and you’ll truly convince yourself you’re at the beach! MORKT lanterns just under €8.

HUTLET bamboo dish €6, great for displaying shells or pebbles…you can pick up some coral from Woodies, I got this one for my bathroom and it cost €6.

AGEN chair €26 and ALSEDA footstool €26

ERIKSLUND picture €10 and BYHOLMA basket €11 for magazines and newspapers..

A nautical beachy look doesn’t have to have blue and white stripes and splashes of red. The basis for the look is that it is fresh and bright with some texture. Typically there is lots of white, seagrass rugs, white painted timber cladding, lightweight drapes and some rustic wood features like driftwood so you can just take little pieces of inspiration from this look if you don’t want it to be too full-on nautical. You can use neutral beige stripes too!

Notice how there is no blue and white stripes? But there is still that beachy vibe…and this truly is a beach cottage in Sydney!

And check out this beautiful bright living room I found via www.homedesigndecorating.com. There are a few subtle nautical beachy touches such as the boat ornament and antique coral print hanging between the windows. Again, very simple unfussy window treatments allowing as much sunlight in as possible.

Unfortunately for those of us living in Ireland, a beach house-inspired room is more likely all we’ll manage! I’m looking out at dull skies and rain as I type! Ah well, at least we’ll feel like we’re at the beach!

Till next time!

Have a nice Sunday :)
